Reading is an Investment

We will once again be participating in the statewide program called Reading is an Investment. The goal of the program is to teach elementary-aged children personal financial concepts. Reading logs and book lists were sent home today October 24,2013. I have explained to our students how to fill out their reading logs and have asked that they be returned to school by the 15th of January. We will be mailing them as one packet at that time. Students need to read three money books – crossing off the box-marked money and writing the title on their reading log – as well as 17 “OPEN” slots. The money books deal with multiple concepts including need versus want, how to start a business, and are marked with a yellow sticker. The Open slots are for free reading – each getting marked off when they have read 20 minutes. This can be any reading or book they choose as long as it is for 20 minutes. As you may remember, each student will receive a certificate for participating as will as a chance to win a $250.00 dollar college savings account.
